The design concept ‘Periphery’ derived from the building location on the edge of the city grid.
Set within the existing 1950s commercial building, this lobby and end of trip upgrade plays with contrasting elements of warm tones that intersect with cold raw existing materiality.
The brief was to revitalise the ground floor lobby of 348 Flinders Street by consolidating the existing tower lift access with the adjoining retail tenancies, as well as creating a new End-of-Trip from Bond Street. The project sought to enhance the building’s overall appeal, improve tenant retention, and provide modern amenities that compete within the current Melbourne CBD market.
Hot Black designed the two spec suites as an extension of the larger design idea and challenged the perceptions of Melbourne’s CBD.
Spec suite 01 (level 04) focused on the concept ‘Urban’, encapsulating the spirit of a modern CBD workplace. Appealing to a more corporate client, the design lends itself to creating dynamic and adaptable workspaces that focus on darker tones and a more industrial aesthetic.
Spec suite 02 (level 08) drew from the concept ‘Botanical’, celebrating the views from the building across to the vibrant outdoor culture of Southbank. Incorporating light timbers and a colour palette that offered a refreshing departure from the harsher urban environment below.
