With a design narrative rooted in nostalgia, Hot Black reimagined elements of Australian colonial style through a contemporary lens.

Nestled in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, Ette is crafted as an intimate wine and dine destination, equally at ease transforming into a venue for events and private functions. The open bar and open kitchen layout invite connection, while low lighting and layered textures create a palette that is warm, soft, and steeped in history – transporting guests into a world of timeless Australian elegance.

The design carefully balances intimacy with depth. Reflective mirrors and metallic surfaces expand the small footprint, while rich materials – stone, laminate, French wash, reeded glass, and soft curtains – harmonise with the gentle curves of bespoke joinery and furniture. A glass-fronted wine cellar takes centre stage, glowing with the promise of Ette’s premium offerings, while modernist touches within the bar and kitchen celebrate transparency and craft.

Sustainability was embedded into the detailing, with 3D-printed wall lights and custom bar shelving seamlessly integrated into the shopfront. The result is a space that blends history with innovation, luxury with warmth – a dining experience designed to draw people back again and again.

Hot Black acknowledges the traditional owners and custodians, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong Boon Wurrung peoples of the Eastern Kulin Nation, and the Gadigal and Cammeraygal peoples of the Eora Nation, on whose lands we meet, share and create. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and honour the knowledges of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
