Sophie Safrin

Director

When Sophie rented a small space above a cafe to store the samples and fabric books that were clogging up her share-house, Hot Black was born.

Since that very first day, she has led the business with heart and soul at each and every step, growing it from a one-woman mission into an award-winning interdisciplinary design team.

Before Hot Black Sophie worked at a number of design practices, both in Australia and the UK, learning how (and how not) to practice her craft. She’s completed international projects for some of the world’s biggest brands including Google, Etihad, Uber and ANZ.

A people person through and through, she is known for the care and attention she brings to everything she does, building relationships based on trust and never shying away from a challenge.

At Hot Black she spearheads the strategic thinking and consultative approach that underpins the studio’s projects. Here she is able to bring together her knowledge and experience in spatial design, commercial real estate and the construction process to generate concepts, develop the delivery methodology and catalyse creativity with commercial acumen.

She loves foreign travel, photography and making Spotify playlists for anyone that will listen.
