A curated mix blending established identity with expanded market
A venue designed in three parts, the “Curated Mix” interiors transitions from prelude to build to crescendo.
As the introductory piece, the Prelude sets the scene for diners at Bang Bang, with an inviting colour palette and movement through materiality. The Build transition the space through the day to night, inviting a warmer colour palette and the introduction of playful lighting & textures. Finally, the Crescendo is a defined & immersive experience for patrons, focusing on the use of ambient lighting paired with a moody & refined colour palette.
Engaged by the Bang Bang team, the brief for Hot Black was to further expand the established food offering further along Melbourne’s bayside region. Introduced to the evolving demographic of Frankston, the interiors take cues from the Hampton, St Kilda & Moorabbin sites for a distinct visual cohesion, whilst translating details for the new market.
Offering a variety of service types, subtle design cues are utilised to zone the venue. Linear forms & decorative elements help to divide the space and create structure, from the ribbed glazing on the façade through to the texture rope screening and feature patterned upholstery of the seating. Movement and playfulness of colour bring visual interest and personality to the spaces, establishing a balance between soft sheers, textural feature paint and stained plywood joinery. Beyond defining dining areas, the lighting enhances the overall atmosphere and transforms the space from day-to-night.
Hot Black acknowledges the traditional owners, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong/Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation, on whose land we meet, share and work.
